This is a brag post - you have been warned.
My 13 year old son comes to me and says that he wants to run a 5k in a few weeks (this was several weeks ago). I told him I thought that was great but didn't want to make too much fuss because I didn't want him to feel any pressure from me. But the day of the race came and he was up at 6:30 am getting himself ready and fed for the event. He even wanted to walk the mile down to the starting point.
I took him to the 5k event and dropped him off. He finished! He was beaming. He managed to come in 61 out of about 80 runners. But the fact that he put his mind to it and finished was amazing and that made me so proud!
He was so sore the next few days but in a good way. He now says he is sure he wants to run track when he goes into public school next year. I am glad he has already found a niche with friends that are involved in the same thing and they are good kids. I am so lucky to have this boy who so far chooses to do good things with his time and energy and he seeks out good friends.
