Changing Grades

In the current homeschooling program our oldest child only has one more year of publicly funded curriculum available through our local school district. We use the K12 virtual school and we have really liked it. I can't say that I love marking all the lessons, assessments and attendance but it doesn't hurt me either.

In my head I guess I have always seen my kids going to a public high school but I have come to realize that you should not set your mind in stone about many things because as people and needs change, so does your mindset. I'm not sure my oldest will be going to a public school in the 9th grade but if not I will most likely purchase a similar or same curriculum.

While taking the risk of boring you I have to say that I am amazed that we have been homeschooling for nine years now! I will not lie, there are days where it feels like nine years but then in the overall picture it seems like it goes by in the blink of an eye. I remember my oldest child so anxious to get to ride a school bus and struggling with the decision about whether or not to homeschool him. I recall how my heart broke when I had to tell him that he wouldn't be riding the bus, that we were doing school at home. Lucky for me, I think his wise little soul knew it was right for him even back then because he did not give me any grief.

So, as I have my kids going into 8th, 7th and 2nd grades (the youngest will be in preschool), I look back and have no regrets for having chosen this path. Yes, there were days, weeks and months that I could have done better but who does not have those feelings?
